Who are we: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . .. . . . . .. . . .. . . . RockWater is currently a non-profit Community Entertainment Center focused on concerts, and other entertainment venues for young adults and families in the Wausau area. We began in February 1999 at Scott & 1st Street as a Coffee House/Cyber Cafe' which, over three years, saw thousands of young people involved in our performance events including concerts, poetry slams, open mic nights and music festivals. In 2003, the City of Wausau condemned the building occupied by RockWater to make room for a downtown parking garage. Due to a lack of funds and an affordable location, RockWater has been in hibernation for almost 5 years, from March 2003 until January 2008.
RockWater had filled a nich for those who were too young or just wanted an alternative to the bar scene. Nowhere else in Central Wisconsin could they get all that RockWater provided in a healthy environment. We were their only alternative with, live music, and other good fun. The new RockWater will some day open a Coffee House Cafe. We will then be open from 6:00AM to 10:00PM six (6) days a week. A Coffee House & Bistro daily, with Friday & Saturday evening for concerts, movies, and other entertainment, for people of all ages. Also, the facility is available for use by the people of this community on a regular weekly or monthly basis, or a one time event, at little or no cost.
We are not a Church, nor a youth group. Our board is made up of Christians that want to see a place in Wausau where young people and their families can come and have a good time, in a clean, wholesome environment. We are not a perfect organization, but we are learning and trying our best.
A simple mission:
To provide a safe, positive, wholesome place for young & old to "hang out" and provide a venue of local & imported talent, concerts, movies, games, and special events for people of all ages and organizations of Central Wisconsin.
The immediate goal:
To be open every Friday & Saturday night with some type of wholesome, affordable activity. As soon as the Coffee Cafe is open, we will be open six (6) days a week. We are also looking for good suggestions, send them to the email address below.
. . . . . . . . . . . . .Ted & Georgie Nelson & the staff at RockWater
. . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..... .. . . Entertainment Venue:
Concerts - Venue for professionals, amateurs & local musicians. Cost will vary depending on the groups. Some free, most in the main auditorium will be in the $5.00 to $10.00 range. Prices will be posted on the schedule for the auditorium concerts.
Free Movie Nights - Shown on our 16'x16' screen through a hi-powered 4500 lumens projector. Sometimes double features, for example: possible trilogies: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Ice Age, Dr. Dolittle, Crocodile Dundee, Back to the Future, Legally Blonde, Shrek, etc. We will not be showing anything rated worse than a "PG", depending, there may be a "PG-13", however, it will be a modified version. All movies will be played through a "Clearplay" DVD player that will screen out offensive language, nudity, and scenes of a senual nature. Ratings will be posted on the schedule. For a cost of $5.00 unlimited popcorn and soda, RockWater movie nights can make a good inexpensive outing for the entire family.
LAN Parties for the Video Gamers - high-speed internet gaming with large multi-port hub. Only games from our approved list and must be played with integrity.
Open Mic & Karaoke Nights - For those who want to share their talents, or lack there of.
Packer Games - on the big screen, someplace other than a bar, with popcorn, soda, etc.
Trips & Summer Camps - as opportunities arise.
Whatever else that might make sense & be fun.
